Artist Q&A: Holly Taylor
Read about her influences, passions, and upcoming exhibition at Salon 21.
Leading up to her first solo exhibition in two years, Holly Taylor answered some questions about her artistic practice. The two of us met in London last summer when we presented an exhibition at Amie Wine Studio. Bonding over our love of the city and growing up in New Jersey, we discussed the idea of an exhibition at Salon 21 in New York. “Repose” opens at Salon 21 on Thursday, March 6th. Alex Bass: How did you begin making art?
Holly Taylor: Growing up, I had the occasional, basic art classes in school where I noticed my love for it, but always went through phases of creativity and inactivity. In college, I learned more about visual arts through graphic design, but it wasn't until after college that I really started painting. I always wanted to use oils but was too intimated. My first solo show back in 2023 gave me the boost to dive in, and I started following along with different oil painting YouTube videos. It was also the first time in my life I didn't have school work to do in between working on set as an actress, so I started painting to fill my days off and as a way of getting in touch with myself throughout new chapters of life.
